As we enter February, it seems a fitting time to let you know about my publishing plans for this year. And, get this… I’m planning to release more than one book in 2019! The first announcement will be one which current readers are expecting, the other may be a bit of a surprise! Read on for more details…
DC Beth Chamberlain (Family Liaison Officer) Series
I’ve been both delighted and humbled at the wonderful reviews and feedback for After He’s Gone and Presumed Guilty, which launched this series last year. I know I left you on a cliff-hanger(!) with Presumed Guilty, so I’m sure you’ll be pleased to hear that I am currently working on the third book in the series (as yet untitled). I’m really excited about this one as it is a most peculiar case for Beth and the team to wrap their heads around, and there are some juicy family secrets in there too!
Publishing schedules being what they are, the release will be in the second half of the year. I wanted to release it earlier, but I also want to make it the best story I can, so I need to give it time and also fit in with my wonderful editor, Debi Alper, and the rest of the team. More details including title and cover art to follow – I can’t wait to see what the team at Paper & Sage cover design come up with this time!
DCI Helen Lavery Series
It’s been five years since The Truth Will Out, the second DCI Helen Lavery novel, was published and I’m stoked at the continued interest in this series and incredibly thankful to still be receiving personal emails and messages about it. So, fans will be pleased to hear that I have teamed up with the lovely Legend Press again to publish a third DCI Helen Lavery book, entitled A Deathly Silence.
In this new story, Helen faces her most challenging case yet, but is still haunted by demons from the past and wrestling with holding down a dangerous job while raising her teenage boys. It’s been great to work with her again, I hope you enjoy reading the story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Also, to celebrate the new book, Legend Press are releasing a new edition of The Truth Will Out in August, with a brand spanking new cover! I can’t wait to see the new look.
A Deathly Silence is scheduled for publication on 15th October 2019. I look forward to sharing the blurb and cover art with you in upcoming months!
DI Will Jackman Series
Thanks for your continued messages about this series. It has been wonderful to write, Will is such an intriguing and fascinating character and obviously the setting of Stratford-upon-Avon is a great place to spend weekends away on the pretence of research! The books have appeared on so many bloggers top tens during their release years, and I’m so grateful to every one of you for your support. Also, I’d like to extend a special thanks to members of Northamptonshire Libraries who made The Lies Within the third most borrowed book during its release year in 2017. (On a separate note, it’s a little-known fact that authors receive a tiny payment every time one of their books is loaned and libraries are free to readers, so please do consider using them so that we can all continue enjoying this wonderful resource for years to come.)
Many of you have been in touch regarding another DI Jackman novel, so I wanted to give you an update there. This series is commissioned by Legend Press and while there are no plans to release a Jackman title this year, it’s certainly a possibility for the future. The series rights have just been sold in China and it will be interesting to see what covers they come up with. I’d certainly love to re-visit Will and his batty Labrador, Erik. Not least, because it means spending more time in beautiful Warwickshire ‘researching’. Watch this space!
Once again, thanks so much to all you lovely readers. I feel very privileged to be able to pursue my dream of writing books and, although it’s the best job in the world, it can also be the most difficult because you want every book to be better than the last. I don’t mind admitting (and I know I’m not alone here in the writing community) that I nibble my nails to the quick on the weeks running up to publication, so it’s always a relief to hear that people have enjoyed and I couldn’t be more grateful for your support.
